I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Weber State University, and then completed a Master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Utah State University in 2002. My professional career has included work with private non-profit agencies, as well as experience within county mental health systems and in private practice. I have experience working with diverse clientele and a wide range of client concerns, and enjoy working with children, youth and adults in individual and family therapy.
In addition to work in my private practice, I am an Adjunct Professor at UVU’s Wasatch Campus, teaching human development. I have also partnered with the Wasatch County Sherriff’s Department to develop and implement a program to help officers and their spouses cope with the stress and trauma of emergency work and to strengthen marriages and families despite the demands of high stress work. Recently, I have also developed a relationship with The PLACE on Fox 13 as a guest speaker on a variety of family life issues.
I am a cautious consumer myself, and I believe that a good client-therapist match aids in obtaining positive changes. This is why I am happy to discuss your situation by phone and together we can determine our fit for a therapeutic relationship. If either of us have concerns, I am happy to discuss alternative treatment options.
I am married to a wonderful man, Rob, whom I have had the privilege of sharing 15 years of marriage and the life rollercoaster that these years have blessed us with. We have four children that bless us, teach us, and challenge us every day. I thank them for keeping me curious and, at least at times, young at heart. I love a wide variety of outdoor activities, and learning almost anything new, often through reading. I also love to travel to new places and try new things while I am there (although I am only minimally “food brave”).
Recently, I have discovered a part of me I didn’t know existed with the love of our dog, Sundance, a yellow lab puppy. I haven’t considered myself an animal person, but this has been such a positive experience that I have started training her as a therapy dog to aid my clients. However, as a non-animal lover by nature, animal assistance is always according to the discretion and desire of my clients.
